What is the most popular Valentine's Day gift for Korean consumers?
Tmon, a Korean e-commerce marketplace, conducted a survey of customers ahead of Valentine's Day.
According to the survey, more than four out of five (84%) said it was a "meaningful anniversary," indicating that positive perception increased slightly from two years ago (77%).
Off-the-shelf chocolate was the most common gift (*multiple answers) on Valentine's Day with 59%, followed by homemade chocolate and perfume with 16% each and 14% of couple items.
However, the gifts I wanted to receive were more diverse, with 39% of ready-made chocolate, 21% of homemade chocolate and luxury miscellaneous goods, 18% of couple items, and 16% of perfume.
When asked about their feelings toward the other person when they just passed Valentine's Day without any commemoration in a relationship, one in two (54%) said they were "disappointed," and even 19% said they were "likely to think about the relationship," considering Valentine's Day as a meaningful day. Mobile shopping channels such as Timon accounted for more than a majority with 53%, followed by large discount stores (17%), department stores (10%), and convenience stores (9%).
